New Age, Old Troubles: Political economy by the prominent Russian economist Evgeny Yasin, comprises his works from 1998 to 2004, all of which are devoted to the interrelation of societal and economic processes in modern Russia. From his analyses of different problems (such as the impact of the 1990s reforms on today s economic upturn, the influence of the state policy on investment conditions, the YUKOS case and the conflict between business and bureaucracy that it marks) Yasin draws a clear conclusion: Russia cannot achieve economic health and prosperity but following the way of democratic development.
